Based on Shivaji Sawant’s famous Marathi novel, the movie’s trailer and songs have received an overwhelming response from fans. Many believe it could be the biggest hit of the year, but does it meet the high expectations? Let’s find out!
Chhaava Movie : A Grand Historical Story
The movie begins in January 1681, when Mughal emperor Aurangzeb learns about the death of Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The Mughals believe they can now conquer the Maratha empire in the Deccan region. But they don’t know about Shivaji’s son, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, also known as Chhaava. Sambhaji suddenly attacks Burhanpur, one of the Mughal Empire’s most important cities, defeats them, and warns Aurangzeb to stay away from the Marathas.
Angered by this, Aurangzeb vows to capture Sambhaji Maharaj and take revenge. Meanwhile, Sambhaji, along with his army, prepares to fight back. What happens next? You’ll have to watch Chhaava on the big screen to find out!
Vicky Kaushal delivers an outstanding performance as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. His dialogue delivery, expressions, and body language make him truly embody the role. Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai is captivating, delivering one of her best performances. Akshaye Khanna, as the ruthless Aurangzeb, is excellent. Supporting actors like Ashutosh Rana, Divya Dutta, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Diana Penty also do justice to their roles.

At the end of 161 minutes of Chhaava, based on the high-points of the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Shivaji Maharaj, you are left with two chief thoughts. How do you pull off a film which talks up a historical figure not as well known as his illustrious parent, without us wondering: how much is fact, and how much fiction.

Chhaava’s excellence lies in its terrific climax, one of the finest in Bollywood historical epics. Vicky Kaushal is breathtaking as he exudes Sambhaji Maharaj’s valour and passion for swaraj like it were his second skin. You just wish the film relied and trusted its solid story more than Rahman’s music, which largely feels out of place.

On the whole, Chhaava is a cinematic experience, which should be witnessed on the big screen for star performances and above all to know about the great life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
