Why Teacher's Day Celebrated on  5 September

Teachers' Day is celebrated on 5 September to commemorate the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

Dr. Radhakrishna was born on September 5, 1888 in Tiruttani, Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. Sarvopalli Radhakrisnan was the first vice president of India and received Bharat Ratna Award for his contribution on Indian education.

Dr. Sarvopalli Radhakrisnan was a scholar, philosopher and teacher by profession.

Dr. Sarvopalli Radhakrisnan received 11 times nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The practice of making Teacher's Day came into force since some students went to wish Dr. Radhakrishna on his birthday in 1962.

Then Dr. Radhakrishna urged those students to celebrate this day (September 5) as a mark of respect for all the teachers.
