In the first episode of Season 2, titled “What If… Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?”, we’re introduced to Nebula. She stumbles upon the gruesome discovery of Yondu’s brutal demise. Surprisingly, the Nova Corps seems inclined to dismiss his death as a good riddance, but Nebula, desperate for answers, is determined to unravel the mystery behind Yondu’s fate.
Nebula carries out her investigation, starting with Yondu’s signature Yaka arrow. Upon closer inspection, she discovers that the arrow is a hologram of strange schematics. Nova Prime speculates that the schematics may be linked to ominous forces that are on the verge of destroying Xandar by nightfall.
Nebula visits an underground casino owned by Howard the Duck and Korg, where they identify the hologram as the mainframe core for Xandar’s planetary security source code.
Nebula then infiltrates the central server of the source code and proceeds to erase all the data. She connects her robot brain to the core of the data to obtain and remove the relevant information. During her search, she discovers Yon-Rogg is collaborating with Nova Prime to offer Xandar to Ronan in exchange for a senior leadership role, despite the fact that Nebula already holds the position.
Finally, upon discovering their intentions, she manages to escape and heads back to the underground casino. There, she forms an alliance with Howard, Korg, and Groot to thwart the Nova Corps’ efforts before they can breach the shield and allow Ronan to proceed. Nebula ingeniously utilizes Yondu’s fin and Yaka’s arrow to overcome the traitors and put a halt to Ronan’s impending invasion.
